PREPARE THE WAY

This morning I smiled as I read about John the Baptist. Not only was John kind of funny looking (see Matt. 3:4), but he was constantly pointing to Jesus. John was a forerunner for Jesus and as such, his job was to prepare a way for the coming Messiah.

As I read in Matthew 3, I was reminded of an important truth to be lived out in each of our lives.

After a call to repentance and a reminder that he Kingdom of Heaven was near, John says:

This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah:
“A voice of one calling in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord,
make straight paths for him.’”
John 3:3

John was preparing the way for the Savior God was sending to the world!

The truth we gain from this verse, as well as the life of John, is that we should be people preparing a way for our Lord. Our lives should be lived in such a way that people see us and are directed to Jesus.

It is not possible for one person to reach everyone in the world. It IS possible for one person to prepare the way for those in their own spheres of influence.

The people we deal with day in and day out as we live our lives are desperate. They are desperate for truth, desperate for hope and desperate for healing. Those we encounter each day are desperate to see us live what we claim to believe. They are in desperate need of us to prepare a way to Jesus for them.

I pray that we would always be mindful of those around us that are watching, and that we would make the road to Christ as clear and straight as we can.
