To Know & Make Known

Bill Bright is quoted as saying that we exist on earth "to know God & to make God known".

This is why we were created.  What we were made for.  A relationship with our Creator & sharing that relationship with our world.

Before Jesus was arrested & led away to be murdered, He prayed.  What did He pray?

As Jesus spoke with His Father, he said this:

And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. (John 17:3 ESV)

Many of us know about God.  We can tell Bible stories.  We go to church services.  Is that what Jesus prayed?
No.

He prayed that we would know him.  Intimately.  Personally.  Not a head knowledge but s heart knowledge.

As we get to know Him, His heart, His will, His peace, we cannot keep it to ourselves.  As a matter of fact, Jesus commands us NOT to.

Did he really?

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20 ESV)

If we know God, we cannot help making Him known.

9 years

I want to take a second to reflect on an anniversary from last week.  I didn't forget about it.  Last week was just a very busy, stressful, emotional week.

On August 8, 2004, I accepted a call on my life into ministry.  I was going into my junior year of high school.  I didn't know what it would look like or how the story would unfold.
I remember walking with my aunt in her flower garden .  We discussed life, career plans, & other stuff.  It was that evening that I surrendered all of my plans to God. I remember praying & saying, "God, I don't know what will happen tomorrow.  Whatever does happen, I want you to use me to point to you."

Over the past 9 years I have made mistakes.  Big, small, repetitive.  I have seen God do great things & He has used me in ways I never dreamed.  He has taught me, & loved me, & counseled me. It's been a great start of a lifetime dedicated to serving Him.

I'm not sure what the future holds or what will happen tomorrow.  All I know is I want to be used to point people to Jesus.
